Taisaku Kitahara

Japanese: 北原泰作 - きたはらたいさく

1906-1981 A Buraku liberation activist from the Taisho to Showa periods.
Born on January 1, 1906. Participated in the Suiheisha Movement at the end of the Taisho period. Joined the army in 1927, and was arrested for directly appealing to the emperor at a military review to abolish discrimination within the military. In 1941, he became Secretary General of the National Committee for Buraku Liberation (later the Buraku Liberation League). In 1975, he founded the National Conference on Buraku Issues Aiming for National Integration, and served as its representative director. Died on January 3, 1981, at the age of 75. Born in Gifu Prefecture. Written work: Descendants of the Outcasts.

明治39年1月1日生まれ。大正末期水平社運動に参加。昭和2年陸軍に入隊,観兵式で天皇に軍隊内の差別撤廃を直訴し,逮捕される。24年部落解放全国委員会(のち部落解放同盟)書記長。50年「国民融合をめざす部落問題全国会議」を結成,代表幹事。昭和56年1月3日死去。75歳。岐阜県出身。著作に「賤民の後裔」。
