A former town in Hiraka County in the central-southern part of Akita Prefecture. The eastern part is the lowlands of the Yokote Basin, and is covered with rice paddies, but the western part is rich in forest resources in the Sasamori Hills. The town produces rice such as Akitakomachi, and also cultivates vegetables and fruit. Omori Wine is produced here. Omori Park is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. Shimotsuki Kagura dance is performed at Haushiwake Shrine on Mount Horowa in the west. In October 2005, the town was incorporated into Yokote City along with the towns of Jumonji, Omonogawa, Hiraka, Masuda, Yamauchi, and Daiyu in Hiraka County. Area: 102.23 km2. 秋田県中南部,平鹿(ひらか)郡の旧町。東部は横手盆地の低地で水田が開けるが,西部は笹森丘陵で森林資源に富む。あきたこまちなど米を産し,野菜,果樹の栽培も行う。大森ワインを産する。大森公園は桜の名所。西方の保呂羽(ほろわ)山の波宇志別(はうしわけ)神社に霜月神楽(かぐら)が伝わる。2005年10月平鹿郡十文字町,雄物川町,平鹿町,増田町,山内村,大雄村と横手市へ編入。102.23km2。7988人(2003)。
