Japanese: オオモミジガサ（英語表記）Miricacalia makineana (Yatabe) Kitam.

A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family, endemic to Japan, with only one species in one genus. It is found in Honshu south of Fukushima Prefecture, Shikoku, and Kyushu. It grows on the forest floor in the deep mountains, at altitudes of 800 to 1500 meters, where sunlight filters through the trees. It resembles the maple tree with palmately incised leaves, but is a size larger, so it is called O-momijigasa. Its other name, Tosa-momijisou, means herbaceous maple, which grows in Tosa (Kochi Prefecture), where it was first discovered. The stem is upright, 50 to 80 cm tall, and usually has two alternate leaves, lacking basal leaves. The lower leaves are large and have long stalks.

1属1種で日本特産のキク科の多年草。福島県以南の本州と四国，九州に分布する。深山の標高800から1500mあたりの木漏れ日のさす林床に生える。掌状に切れ込んだ葉をもつモミジガサに似ていて，一回り大きいところからオオモミジガサと呼ばれる。別名のトサノモミジソウは最初に発見された地の土佐(高知県)に産する草本のモミジという意味である。茎は直立し，高さ50～80cm，普通2枚の葉を互生し，根出葉を欠く。下葉は大きく，長柄がある。
