〘名〙① 奈良時代、大和国と河内国に置かれた特別行政区。離宮の所在地で芳野監(よしののげん)と和泉監(いずみのげん)とがあった。のちに二監とも大和国、河内国に合併され、また和泉国として分立した。※続日本紀‐霊亀二年(716)四月甲子「始置二和泉監一焉」② 大宰府の判官(じょう)。大・少がある。大監は正六位下、少監は従六位相当で定員は各二員。※源氏(1001‐14頃)玉鬘「まれまれのはらからはこのげむにおなじ心ならずとて仲たがひにたり」
