Johansen, L.

...A discipline that studies the role of the public sector in an economic society based on a democratic political system and a free competitive market based on private property. The term public economics is a relatively new term, and the Norwegian author Leif Johansen's 1964 book Offentling Økonomikk was translated into English as Public Economics the following year, marking the beginning of its widespread use. In 1972, the Journal of Public Economics was published, and the term became established in the academic world.
