Omonoimi - Omonoimi

Japanese:
Omonoimi - Omonoimi

It was the title of a job for the priests who served Ise Grand Shrine. There were nine observances at Kotai-jingu Shrine: O-mokumiki, Miyamori, Tokomatsuri, Sakatoku, Kiyosake-tsukuri, Takimatsuri, Misaki, Haji pottery making, and Yamage. At Toyouke-daijingu Shrine there were six observances: O-mokumiki, Mikashigi, Misaki, Sugadachi, Nekura, and Takanomiya. Among these monoki, O-monoki was the most important position, and was performed in such duties as the morning and evening offerings of omi-ke (the god's meal) to Amaterasu Omikami, the opening and closing of the doors to the main hall, and the Futotamagushi ceremony when the Saio entered the shrine. All monoki were unmarried young girls, and an equal number of boys called monoki fathers were placed to accompany them. According to the "Imperial Shrine Ritual Book," O-monoki was first performed when Kawahime-no-mikoto, grandson of Amenomitooshi-no-mikoto, ancestor of Arakida Kannushi, first enshrined the shrine. Since then, various families have continued the practice up until the early modern period.
