Agriculture carried out in hot, humid regions where precipitation exceeds evapotranspiration. It is found mainly in the monsoon zones of Asia. It is contrasted with dryland agriculture in areas with an annual precipitation of 500 mm or less. In monsoon zones, the year is regularly divided into rainy and dry seasons, and the rainy season from May to September is hot and humid, allowing plants to grow extremely vigorously. The favorable conditions for plant growth mean that weeds also grow vigorously along with the crops, and sometimes the crops are overwhelmed by the weeds, resulting in no harvest at all.
