Abbreviation of Japanese Engineering Standard. Japanese standard. Standard for Japanese industrial products before JIS was established. Established in 1921 (Taisho 10), revised as Temporary Japanese Standard (Rin-JES) in 1939 (Showa 14) as wartime standard, and as New Japanese Standard (Shin-JES) after World War II, it was integrated into JIS in 1949.
