A former town in Taka District, central Hyogo Prefecture. It occupies the midstream area of the Sugihara River, a tributary of the Kako River, with Nakamura Town at its center. Along with Nishiwaki City, it is an industrial area for Banshu textiles. It is also famous as a producer of rice for sake brewing. Food and precision machinery companies have also established operations here. In November 2005, it merged with Kami Town and Yachiyo Town in Taka District to become Taka Town, Taka District. 48.02 km2 . Population 11,783 (2003).
