...At the recording site, blood is drawn into a small, thin container (cell) called a cuvette at a constant rate, and a dye dilution curve is continuously recorded using a photoelectric colorimeter equipped with a color filter. There is also a simple method (earpiece method) in which the earlobe is used as a cell to observe the changes after the blood passes through the earlobe. This method can roughly determine cardiac output, cardiac transit time, and the degree of abnormal shunting within the heart due to congenital heart disease and regurgitation due to valvular heart disease.
