An old town occupying Notojima in Nanao Bay on the Noto Peninsula in Kashima District, Ishikawa Prefecture. The island is flat and hilly with well-developed coastal terraces. It produces rice and tobacco leaves. Fishing, such as fixed net fishing and aquaculture, is also thriving. The town is popular for swimming and pheasant hunting. Regular ferries used to run from Nanao City, but in 1982 the Notojima Ohashi Bridge was built, and buses can be taken from Nanao.
