A Japanese and English Dictionary (English)

...This was the first Japanese-English dictionary in Japan, compiled by Hepburn at a time when Christianity was banned, with the aim of helping future missionary work. The English title was "A Japanese and English Dictionary; with an English and Japanese Index." The Japanese title was given by Hepburn's fifth Japanese teacher, Ginko Kishida.
