... After the war, a large number of Japanese returned to their native lands, and restoration of their honor for the way they were treated during the war became a task. Thanks to the efforts of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL, founded in 1930), the Forced Eviction Claims Act of 1948 (claims could be made until 1950) was passed, and although it was insufficient, it made clear the illegality of forced evictions. Naturalization of the first generation was made possible by the Walter-McCarran Act (1952), and the Alien Land Law was gradually abolished (in California in 1956). ...
