In the Edo period, the distinction between rice paddies and field land was strict, and arbitrary change of land category was not permitted. However, when rice paddies became unsuitable for rice cultivation due to lack of irrigation water, they could be converted to field land upon request, and this was called "tahataku." Conversely, converting field land to rice paddies is called "hatataku." In the case of "tahataku," the kokudaka of the upper rice paddies is usually calculated by changing the kokudaka of the upper field to the kokudaka of the upper field, and the kokudaka of the middle and lower rice paddies to the kokudaka of the lower field and lower field, respectively. Since the kokudaka of the fields is lower than that of rice paddies, the kokudaka is naturally reduced from the original kokudaka, but this amount was added to the kokudaka of the upper field as a difference in kokudaka of the fields, and the tax was exempted.
