İttihad ve Terakki Cemiyeti

…A reform movement against the tyranny of Sultan Abdülhamid II at the end of the Ottoman Empire. Its core force was the Committee for Unity and Progress (İttihad ve Terakki Cemiyeti), founded in 1889 by Ibrahim Temo (1865-1945), a student at the Military Medical School in Istanbul. Its goal was to revive the Midhat Constitution, which had been promulgated in 1876. It followed on from the activities of the Neo-Ottoman Association, which included Namık Kemal and others, who sought to introduce modern Western civilization and reform the Ottoman Empire.
