Professional wrestlers already existed in the Greek and Roman eras, but it is said that professional wrestling as a show business as we know it today was not established until the end of the 19th century, with Frank Gotch recognized as the first world champion in 1905. Its popularity in the United States increased after World War II, and in 1948 the world's largest organization, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), now World Championship Wrestling (WCW), was created as an alliance of promoters (promoters), with Lou Thesz, known as the "Iron Man," holding the throne for a long time.
