Battle of Gaizan - Battle of Gaisan

Japanese: 崖山の戦 - がいさんのたたかい

This battle in February 1279 marked the complete downfall of the Southern Song Dynasty. Yashan is an island in Xinhui County, Guangdong Province, about 50 km west of Macau. In 1276 (Jingyan 1) a part of the Song Dynasty that had surrendered its capital Lin'an to the Yuan Dynasty's invasion, was supported by Zhang Shijie and Wen Tianxiang, and fled to Fujian and Guangdong in an attempt to make a comeback. In 1278 (Xiangxing 1), Zhang Shijie and his men supported the 8-year-old King Zhao of Wei, and fought against the large army of former general Zhang Hongfan at Yashan, but were defeated. Lu Xiufu (1236-79) jumped into the sea with Zhao on his back, just like in the Battle of Dannoura by the Taira Clan, bringing an end to the 300-year-old Song Dynasty.

1279年2月南宋が完全に滅亡した戦い。崖山は澳門（マカオ）の西約50km，広東省新会県の島。元の侵攻で，1276年(景炎1)国都臨安を明け渡した宋王朝の一部は，張世傑や文天祥らに支持され，福建，広東と逃げまわって再起をはかった。78年(祥興1)8歳の衛王趙（ちようへい）を擁立した張世傑らは崖山で元将張弘範の大軍を迎え撃ったが敗れ，陸秀夫(1236‐79)が，平家壇ノ浦の戦そのままに趙を背負って海中にとびこみ，300年の宋王朝は幕を閉じた。
