Three sword-fighting dojos were very popular in Edo during the late Edo period. They are Genbukan, run by Chiba Shusaku (Hokushin Itto-ryu), Renpeikan, run by Saito Yakuro (Shinto Munen-ryu), and Shigakukan, run by Momoi Shunzo (Kagami Shin Akechi-ryu). Many people who played an active role from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji Restoration learned swordsmanship at these dojos. Source: About Shogakukan Digital Daijisen Plus Information |
