A village in Higashitagawa County, western Yamagata Prefecture. Population 6,309 (1995). Located at the southwestern edge of the Shonai region, south of Tsuruoka City, the town borders Asahi Village, Niigata Prefecture in the southwest. More than 90% of the town's area is mountainous, with the Asahi Mountains, including Yudono-san, one of the Dewa Sanzan mountains, to the east, Maya-san to the west, and Ito-dake to the south. The Bonji River, a tributary of the Aka River, flows north in the north, and the Arasawa Dam and Yakuwa Dam are on its tributaries. The town is one of the snowiest areas in the prefecture, and in recent years the population has declined dramatically, with many people migrating to work. In 1976 it was designated a depopulation promotion area. The eastern half of the town is included in Bandai-Asahi National Park, and is home to the Otoriike Campground and Yudono-san Ski Resort.

Asahi [Asahi Village]

A village in Iwafune County in northern Niigata Prefecture. Population 12,837 (1995). Comprised of the Asahi Mountains and the Miomote River basin, which belong to Bandai-Asahi National Park, it is the largest village in the prefecture in area (626 km2). More than 90% of the village area is covered by forests, making it the largest producer of timber and firewood in the prefecture, and forest road construction projects such as the Asahi Super Forest Road are underway. During the Sengoku period, the village was ruled by the Uesugi clan, and the Narumi Gold Mine in Takane was developed by the Uesugi clan and others towards the end of the period, reaching its peak during the Keicho to Genna periods (1596-1624). The ruins, excavated like an ant's nest, can still be seen today.

Asahi [Asahi Village]

A village in Higashichikuma County, central Nagano Prefecture. Population 4,459 (1995). Located at the southwestern edge of the Matsumoto Basin, about 90% of the village area is included in the mountainous region of the Hida Mountains. Mt. Hachimori (2,446m) and Mt. Eboshi (1,952m) tower in the southwest, and the Kusari River flows northeast through the center of the village. Agriculture, mainly field crops on the dissected alluvial fan of the Kusari River, is the main industry, and highland vegetables such as lettuce, Chinese cabbage, tomatoes, and cabbage are cultivated. The central settlement, Onozawa, is also located here. The standing statues of Nikko Bosatsu and Gakko Bosatsu at the Shingon sect's Korin-ji Temple in Nishiaraima are prefectural treasures.

Asahi [Asahi Village]

A village in Ono County, northern Gifu Prefecture. Population 2,177 (1995). Located in the upper reaches of the Masuda River, which is upstream of the Hida River, the village is widely covered by the mountainous region of the Hida Mountains that connect to Mount Norikura. The village is located at an altitude of 700m along the Masuda River, where settlements and farmland are scattered. The Kiso Kaido (National Route 361), which connects Takayama and Kiso Fukushima, runs parallel to the Masuda River. The main industries are agriculture and forestry, and livestock farming is carried out on the sloping land. There is the Asahi Dam on the Masuda River and the Akigami Dam on the Akigami River. The mountainous area at the northeastern end belongs to Chubu Sangaku National Park.

山形県西部,東田川郡の村。人口6309(1995)。庄内地方の南西端,鶴岡市の南に位置し,南西部は新潟県朝日村に接する。東は出羽三山の一つ湯殿山,西は摩耶山,南は以東岳などの朝日山地がそびえ,町面積の9割以上は山地である。北部を赤川の支流梵字川が北流し,その支流に荒沢ダム,八久和ダムがある。県内でも有数の豪雪地帯で,近年,人口減少が著しく,出稼者も多い。1976年には過疎振興地域に指定されている。町域の東半は磐梯朝日国立公園に含まれ,大鳥池キャンプ場や湯殿山スキー場がある。

あさひ【朝日[村]】

新潟県北部にある岩船郡の村。人口1万2837(1995)。磐梯朝日国立公園に属する朝日山地と三面川の盆地からなり,村としては県内一の面積(626km2)をもつ。村域の90%以上を山林が占め,県下最大の用材・薪炭の産地であり,朝日スーパー林道など林道開設事業が進められている。戦国時代は上杉氏が支配し,高根の鳴海金山は戦国末期に上杉氏らが開発し,慶長~元和期(1596‐1624)に最盛期を迎えた。現在もアリの巣状に掘りつくされた遺構が残る。

あさひ【朝日[村]】

長野県中部,東筑摩郡の村。人口4459(1995)。松本盆地の南西端に位置し,村域の約9割が飛驒山脈の山岳地帯に含まれる。南西部には鉢盛山(2446m),烏帽子岳(1952m)がそびえ,村の中央を鎖川が北東流する。鎖川の開析扇状地での畑作を主とする農業が主産業であり,レタス,ハクサイ,トマト,キャベツなどの高原野菜の栽培が盛ん。中心集落の小野沢もここに立地する。西洗馬の真言宗光輪寺の日光菩薩立像と月光菩薩立像は県宝。

あさひ【朝日[村]】

岐阜県北部,大野郡の村。人口2177(1995)。飛驒川上流の益田(ました)川上流域に位置し,村域には乗鞍岳に連なる飛驒山脈の山地が広く分布し,集落と耕地が点在する益田川沿岸でも標高700mの高所にある。高山と木曾福島を結ぶ木曾街道(国道361号線)が益田川に並行して通る。農林業を主とし,傾斜地を利用した畜産が行われる。益田川には朝日ダム,秋神川には秋神ダムがある。北東端の山岳地帯は中部山岳国立公園に属する。
