A Turkish plucked string instrument. It is a lute-like instrument with a pear-shaped body and a long, thin neck, which is fretted and has three courses of double metal strings. It is the name of a larger one of the folk string instruments collectively known as saz, and is also called bozuk. It can also refer to the Albanian tambour. In Greece, a similar instrument is called buzuki or buzukia, and the frets have been improved by embedding metal pieces in the neck like a guitar.
