Canadian Greenland Shield

...the area in the northeastern part of the North American continent where metamorphic rocks and granites from the Archean and early to middle Proterozoic eras are widely distributed. It is also called the Canada-Greenland Shield, and was formerly called the Laurentian Shield. Since this area has been a stable region (craton) since the Paleozoic era, this craton has recently been called the "Central Stable Region."
