A Czech long-distance runner. At the 15th Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952, he achieved the feat of winning three events: the 5,000m, 10,000m, and the marathon. Nicknamed the "human locomotive," he was known for running with a look of pain on his face. Between 1949 and 1955, he rewrote all official world records, including those in the 5,000m and 10,000m, as well as the 20,000m and 30,000m, including those in the yard system. His wife, Dana Zatopekkova, was also a javelin thrower and won the Helsinki Games. Zatopek was born on September 12, 1922, and Zatopek and Zatopekova were born on the same day and month of the same year, making them a rare couple of the same age. Due to their active actions during the "Prague Spring" in 1968 under the Dubcek administration, they were reportedly treated poorly during the former Czechoslovakia era.
