AE Camera - AE Camera

...The method of electrically measuring the brightness of the subject to determine the amount of exposure was the old one that used a selenium photocell, and the first camera to incorporate this was the Zeiss-Ikon twin-lens reflex Contaflex, which was released in 1935. A camera equipped with a mechanism that can automatically set the amount of exposure is called an EE camera (EE stands for electric eye) or an AE camera (AE stands for automatic exposure). The origin of automatic exposure was a method in which the needle of a meter is made to swing using the output current of a photocell, which is held down by a stepped cam, and the lens aperture is automatically controlled by the cam's stroke (shutter speed priority system). The first commercially available camera to adopt this system was the Super Kodak 620, released in 1938. On the other hand, the system of directly controlling the shutter speed using the output current of an exposure meter (aperture priority system) was first put to practical use in the Polaroid Automatic 100, released in 1963. ...
