…He spent most of the Revolutionary period traveling on the continent, and during the Republican period he devoted himself to studying landscaping and flora and fauna on his local estates. During the Restoration, he presented his book Sylva's Forestry (1664), which was a scientifically valid proposal for restoring the forests of England that had been devastated by the civil war, and it showed the new intellectual climate in England from the second half of the 17th century. It was a work worthy of this writer, who was also the founder of the Royal Society, and met the wishes of the new King, Charles II. …
