The name of the East Japan Railway Company's track. The 119.4 km section between Soga, Kisarazu and Awa-Kamogawa in Chiba Prefecture is double track, with single track the rest of the way, and DC electrification throughout. It runs along the Uchibo coast of Tokyo Bay on the Boso Peninsula, and connects with the Sotobo Line at Awa-Kamogawa to form a loop around the Boso Peninsula. Cities such as Ichihara, Kisarazu, Kimitsu, Futtsu, Tateyama and Kamogawa are located along the line, and it runs through the Keiyo Industrial Area. Due to urbanization along the line, there is a high demand for commuter transport in the section north of Kimitsu, and in the summer it is crowded with transport to tourist destinations such as Minamiboso Quasi-National Park. Many trains run directly to Chiba and Tokyo via the Sobu Main Line and Keiyo Line. It was originally called the Kisarazu Line and opened between Soga and Awa-Hojo (now Tateyama) from 1912 to 1919 (Taisho 1-8), and was renamed the Hojo Line in 1919, and opened between Awa-Hojo and Awa-Kamogawa from 1921 to 1925. With the completion of the Boso Peninsula Circumferential Line in 1929 (Showa 4), it was renamed the Boso Line, but in 1933 it was divided at the Awa-Kamogawa and became the Boso West Line, and in 1972 (Showa 47) it was renamed the Uchibo Line. It was electrified from 1968 to 1971. In 1987, following the privatization of the Japanese National Railways, it became part of East Japan Railway Company.
