...Its members were called Wobblies. The IWW was formed in 1904 by bringing together socialists and anarchists such as EV Debs, centered around the Western Federation of Miners, which had been defeated in the Cripple Creek mine dispute in Colorado. It took a stance promoting class struggle, stating in the IWW charter that "the working class and the employer class have nothing in common," and opposed the moderate American Federation of Labor (AFL). After the United States entered World War I in 1917, it adopted a strong anti-war stance.
