A city in the mid-west of Fukuoka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1972. It is in a suburban rural area, but is served by the Kagoshima Main Line, the Nishitetsu Tenjin Omuta Line, and National Route 3, and has seen a rapid increase in population in recent years due to the large number of people commuting to Fukuoka City. It is home to the ruins of Ono Castle and Mizuki Castle (both designated special historic sites). Area: 26.89 km2 .
