Arlberg Skiing - Arlberg Skiing
A type of Austrian skiing technique invented by H. Schneider. It was an excellent technique for skiing down steep mountainous terrain, and laid the foundation for alpine skiing. Schneider opened a ski school in St. Anton in 1909, and contributed to the spread of skiing. He came to Japan in 1930 and taught in various parts of the country. He also left a major mark on the development of Japanese ski resorts and the spread of skiing.

オーストリア・スキー術の一つ。H.シュナイダーが考案。急峻(きゅうしゅん)な山岳地帯を滑り降りる技術にすぐれ,アルペン競技の基礎がつくられた。シュナイダーは1909年,ザンクト・アントンにスキー学校を開設し,スキー術の普及に貢献した。1930年には来日し,日本各地で指導にあたった。日本のスキー場の開発やスキー術の普及にも大きな足跡を残した。
