Borderline schizophrenia

Japanese: 境界線分裂病 - きょうかいせんぶんれつびょう（英語表記）borderline schizophrenia

These are cases that are positioned on the border or between neurosis and schizophrenia, and are also simply called "borderline cases." While persistent hypochondria, obsessions or fears, depersonalization, and other neurotic symptoms are in the foreground, delusions and experiences of being influenced are also mixed in, and in young people, various behavioral abnormalities (violence, drug abuse, self-harm, etc.) are prominent, making treatment sometimes difficult. In 1928, the British J. Rickmann was the first to state that there were psychiatric disorders disguised as neuroses, but there is much debate as to whether this is early schizophrenia or an independent, unitary pathology, and today, the view that it is a type of personality disorder (borderline personality disorder) is gaining strength in the United States and Japan.

神経症(ノイローゼ)と精神分裂病との境界もしくは中間に位置づけられるケースで，単に〈境界例borderline case〉とも略称される。執拗な心気傾向，強迫ないし恐怖，離人など神経症症状を前景としながら，妄想や被影響体験が混じったり，若年者の場合には各種の行動異常(暴力，薬物乱用，自傷行為など)が目だち，治療も時に難渋する。1928年にイギリスのリックマンJ.Rickmannが精神病の中に神経症の仮面をかぶったものがあると述べたのが最初であるが，これが初期の分裂病なのか，独立の単位的病態なのかについては多くの議論があり，さらに今日では一種の人格異常(境界線人格障害)とみる立場もアメリカや日本で力を得ている。
