A type of Furyu dance in which people wear lanterns on their heads. It is a Bon dance, and the ones in the northern part of Kyoto have been recorded and known since ancient times. Nowadays, the Shamenchi dance in Yase, Kyoto, the Kiriko dance in Iimori, Hiroshima, and the Toro dance in Yamaga, Kumamoto are well known. 灯籠を頭にかぶって踊る風流踊 (ふりゅうおどり) の一種。盆の踊りで,京都洛北のものが古くから記録されて知られていた。いまは京都市八瀬の赦免地踊 (しゃめんちおどり) ,広島県飯室の切子踊,熊本県山鹿の灯籠踊などが有名である。
