Takaaki Uematsu

A Meiji-era journalist and commentator. Born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. He graduated from the Tokyo Senmon Gakko (Tokyo College of English and Politics) in 1896, and joined the Toyo Keizai Shinposha in 1898. Although he was interrupted by military service, he continued to write for the magazine Toyo Keizai Shinpo, and served as editor-in-chief from 1901. While he was an enthusiastic advocate of liberal economics, he also had a deep interest in Meiji political history, and has written articles and books on that subject. His works include Free Trade or Protectionism and A History of the Meiji Era.

明治時代の記者,評論家。石川県金沢生まれ。明治29(1896)年東京専門学校英語政治科を卒業し,31年,東洋経済新報社に入社。兵役による中断はあったが,雑誌『東洋経済新報』に筆をふるい,36年以降は主幹を務めた。自由主義経済の熱心な主唱者であると同時に,明治政治史への関心も深く,その方面の論文や著作もある。『自由貿易乎保護貿易乎』『明治史伝』などの著書がある。
