The Japanese word "kin" is the same as the Chinese word "kin." Kin is divided into "true clan" ("main clan") and "external marriage." True clan is the same as "lineage," but the lineage to which one belongs is called the true clan, and external marriage is related to the wife's family or the daughter's family, and is a different surname due to the law that prohibits same-surname marriage.
