...Architecture is closely connected to society, so the opinions of architects are important, but in times of confusion and depression, most of the plans remain unrealized, and many of the works during this period were more utopian in nature. Well-known examples include B. Taut's Alpine Architecture (1917-18, published in 1920), the Salzburg Festival Theater in Poelzig (1918-22), Wassili Luckhardt's (1889-1972) monument tower plan (1919), and the few examples that were realized include Mendelsohn's Einstein Tower (1921) and Fritz Höger's (1877-1949) Chile Pavilion (1923, Hamburg). The ideological characteristics of Expressionist architecture include its aim to integrate the arts, centered on architecture, and its resistance to the individual purification seen in modern art in general, and after the war, it became even more utopian-oriented. …
