…After graduating, he became an unpaid assistant at the Stockholm School of Medicine and Surgery, and in 1807 became a professor. In 1802, together with the miner W. Hisinger (1766-1852), he studied the electrolysis of salt solutions, and demonstrated that the acidic and basic components of salts gather at the anode and cathode, respectively. He later developed this idea and proposed the electrochemical dualism (1819), which states that all compounds are composed of two components with positive and negative electricity. …
