A river in the southern United States. One of the tributaries of the Mississippi River. It has a total length of 1,426 km. It begins at the confluence of two tributaries that originate in the southern Appalachian Mountains near Knoxville in eastern Tennessee. It flows southwest into Alabama, turns west, then flows north to join the Ohio River. Many dams have been built by the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority). 米国南部の川。ミシシッピ川の支流の一つ。全長1426km。アパラチア山脈南部に発する２支流の，テネシー州東部のノックスビル付近での合流点に始まる。南西流してアラバマ州に入り，西に転じ，次いで北流してオハイオ川に合流。TVA（テネシー川流域開発公社）によって多くのダムが建設されている。
