A residential and commercial district in the eastern part of Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo. Located in an eroded valley carved into the Yamate Plateau, it was said to have been a marshland in the early Edo period. Nezu Gongen (Nezu Shrine) was built in 1706, and the area takes its name from this shrine. The shrine building is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, and the grounds are famous for their azaleas. The Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line runs through the area. 東京都文京区東部の住宅・商業地区。山手台地を刻む浸食谷内に位置し,江戸時代初期は沼沢地と伝えられる。宝永3 (1706) 年根津権現 (根津神社 ) が建立され,地名はこの神社に由来する。社殿は国指定の重要文化財,境内はツツジの名所。東京地下鉄千代田線が通る。
