Nezu

Japanese: 根津 - ねづ
Nezu
A residential and commercial district in the eastern part of Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo. Located in an eroded valley carved into the Yamate Plateau, it was said to have been a marshland in the early Edo period. Nezu Gongen (Nezu Shrine) was built in 1706, and the area takes its name from this shrine. The shrine building is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, and the grounds are famous for their azaleas. The Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line runs through the area.
