Fundamental Law of the Kingdom (English)

Japanese: 王国基本法 - おうこくきほんほう（英語表記）Lois fondamentales du royaume

This refers to the set of customary regulations that limited the absolute sovereignty of the French king and could not be changed even by the king. Its basic principles are summarized as two: the continuity of the dynasty and the independence of the crown. The list of regulations was not codified, but can be summarized as follows: (1) The French government is a hereditary monarchy with male primogeniture. (2) Women and illegitimate children are excluded from inheriting the throne. This is based on the Salic Code, which was adopted in 1358 and ratified in 1593. (3) The king comes of age at 13, and a regent is appointed while he is a minor.

フランス国王の絶対的君主権を制限し，国王といえども変更できなかった慣習的諸規制の総体をいう。その基本理念は，王朝の持続と王冠の独立という二つに集約される。諸規制のリストは成文化されなかったが，次の8点にまとめられる。(1)フランスの政体は男系長子相続による世襲君主制である。(2)女性ならびに庶子は王位相続から除外される。これはサリカ法典によるもので，1358年に援用され，1593年に追認された。(3)国王の成年は13歳とされ，未成年の間には摂政がおかれる。
