Oshima, Tokyo, is a town that occupies the entirety of Oshima Island in the Izu Islands. During the Edo period, it was under the direct control of the shogunate and was governed by the Nirayama magistrate, but in 1878 it came under the jurisdiction of Tokyo Prefecture. The main settlement is Motomachi on the west coast. The town produces a lot of camellia oil, made from camellia seeds, and also raises dairy cows to produce butter. Flower and vegetable cultivation is also popular. It has a warm climate and beautiful scenery, including Mt. Mihara, and is part of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. The women's clothing and hairstyle, known as "anko," are distinctive. The town has been hit by disasters frequently caused by eruptions of the active volcano Mt. Mihara, and in 2013, Typhoon 26 caused heavy rains and large-scale mudslides, causing great damage. 90.76 km2 . 8,461 people (2010).

This old town is located in Nishisonogi County, Nagasaki Prefecture, and is made up of Oshima and Terashima islands on the northwest coast of the Nishisonogi Peninsula. It became a coal mining town after the Matsushima Coal Mine's Oshima Mine began operations in 1935, but it closed in 1970 and the population dropped dramatically. The town's centre is Magome on the northeast coast. Drinking water is pumped from under the sea. In April 2005, it merged with Nishisonogi County's Nishisonogi Town, Saikai Town, Sakito Town, and Oseto Town to become a city, Saikai City. Area: 13.31 km2 . Population: 5,927 (2003).

An old town on the Toyama Plain in Imizu District, Toyama Prefecture. A farming village producing rice and watermelons, it is becoming increasingly urbanized due to its location between the two major cities of Toyama and Takaoka, and its location of alloy and spinning factories. The town is served by the Hokuriku Main Line and National Route 8. In November 2005, it merged with Shinminato City, Imizu District's Kosugi Town, Daimon Town, and Shimomura Town to become Imizu City. Area: 7.96 km2 . Population: 9,810 (2003).

A former town in Oshima County, occupying the western part of Oshima Island in the southeastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture. The central town of Komatsu is a port town facing Yanai City. In addition to cultivating mandarin oranges on the mountain slopes and growing rice, the town also engages in fishing. In October 2004, it merged with the towns of Hisaka, Towa, and Tachibana in Oshima County to form Suo-Oshima Town. 47.28 km2 . 7,325 people (2003).

長崎県西彼杵(にしそのぎ)郡,西彼杵半島北西岸の大島,寺島などからなる旧町。1935年の松島炭鉱大島鉱業所操業以後炭鉱町となったが,1970年閉山し人口が激減した。中心は北東岸の馬込。飲料水は海底送水による。2005年4月西彼杵郡西彼町,西海町,崎戸町,大瀬戸町と合併し市制,西海市となる。13.31km2。5927人(2003)。

富山県射水(いみず)郡,富山平野上の旧町。米,スイカを産する農村であるが,合金,紡績の工場が立地,富山,高岡の二大都市の間に位置する地理的条件から,都市化が進む。北陸本線,国道8号線が通じる。2005年11月,新湊市,射水郡小杉町,大門町,下村と合併し市制,射水市となる。7.96km2。9810人(2003)。

山口県南東部,大島の西部を占める大島郡の旧町。中心の小松は柳井市に相対する港町。山地斜面でのミカン栽培,米作を行うほか,漁業も営む。2004年10月大島郡久賀町,東和町,橘町と合併し,周防大島町となる。47.28km2。7325人(2003)。
