Degeneration - Heterogeneity
〘noun〙① A change in properties; or those changed properties. (Reprint of the Keio English-Japanese Dictionary (1867))② Used especially in industrial applications. (a) When natural proteins are exposed to physical stimuli such as heat or ultraviolet light, or chemical stimuli such as acid or alkali, they lose their original properties. The chemical composition remains unchanged. (b) The addition of other substances to industrial raw materials so that they cannot be used for food or drink. (c) The replacement of some of the components of synthetic resins with other substances, thereby producing something with different properties.

〘名〙① 性質が変わること。また、その変わった性質。〔慶応再版英和対訳辞書(1867)〕② 特に工業関係などで用いる。(イ) 天然蛋白質が加熱や紫外線などの物理的刺激あるいは酸・アルカリなどの化学的刺激をうけて、本来の性質を失うこと。化学的組成は変わらない。(ロ) 工業用原料を飲食用に流用できないように他の物質を添加すること。(ハ) 合成樹脂の成分の一部を他のものと置換すること。それによって性質の異なったものを製造する。
