One of the Osaka Zaiban, a military organization of the Edo Shogunate that guarded Osaka Castle. Also known as the Osaka Castle Guard. Founded in 1623 and controlled by the Roju. Its duties were to supervise the various magistrates of Osaka Castle and to maintain and manage the castle grounds, and a fudai daimyo with a fief of 20,000 to 30,000 koku was appointed to it. There was one standard position for each of the Kyobashi and Tamatsukuri entrances. The position was based on a monthly rotation, with no set term of office. Thirty yoriki and 100 doshin were attached to it, with a salary of 3,000 straw bales. They were also provided with a residence. 大坂城を警護する江戸幕府の軍事組織である大坂在番の一つ。大坂城番とも。1623年に創設され,老中支配。職掌は大坂城の諸奉行を統括し,城内の維持管理にあたることで,2〜3万石の譜代大名が任じられた。定数は京橋口定番・玉造(たまつくり)口定番各1名。月番制で,任期は不定。与力30騎・同心100人が付属し,役料3000俵。役宅も支給された。なお大坂在番にはほかに大番・加番・目付があった。→大坂城代
