Garzê (English spelling)

Japanese: ガルツェ（英語表記）Garzê

A county in northwestern Sichuan Province, China. Population: 50,000 (1994). A variation of the Tibetan Chinese translation, meaning "a beautiful white town." Located in the northern part of the Gartse Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, the county seat is a Tibetan town that developed in the Yalong River Gorge. Since the Tang Dynasty, it has been part of the Tubo region, but in the Yuan Dynasty, Da Gansi Zhaoshi was established, while in the Ming Dynasty, Ganda, and in the Qing Dynasty, Mashu, and other local tsis were established, and Ganzi Prefecture was established. It was only in 1913, when the Republic of China was established, that the county was established. It was merged with Xikang Province in 1939 and Sichuan Province in 1955, and has existed to this day, after undergoing democratic reforms in 1959.

中国，四川省北西部の県。人口5万(1994)。チベット語の漢訳の変化したもので，〈白く美しい町〉の意。ガルツェ･チベット族自治州の北部にあり，県城は雅礱（がろう）江峡谷に発達したチベット族の町。唐以降吐蕃（とばん）の地であったが，元には朶甘思（だかんし）招討司，明には甘朶，清には麻書などの土司が設けられ，甘孜州がおかれた。1913年中華民国になりはじめて県が成立した。39年西康省，55年四川省と合併後，59年の民主改革をへて，今日にいたる。
