Keynote jellyfish - Keynote jellyfish

A marine animal belonging to the order Hydroids, class Hydrozoa, and family Anemonidae. The jellyfish's umbrella is dish-shaped or hemispherical, 1.5-2 cm in diameter, and the 40-100 tentacles found on the edge of the umbrella are bent near the tip, hence the name. There are four rays, and the gonads develop in folds along their entire length. The oral stalk is short. It usually swims among the waterweeds in shallow waters, but sometimes it attaches to the waterweed using sticky cells near the tip of the tentacles, or rests on the seabed with the umbrella facing down. The tentacles, oral stalk, and gonads are brown. It is distributed along the coasts of Japan and widely around the world. The northern jellyfish found off the coast of Hokkaido is considered to be a variant of this species, but it is somewhat small and has strong nematocyst venom. The polyp form is extremely small and degenerate, so small that it is usually not visible to the naked eye, but it has 4-6 tentacles and is single. In addition to producing medusa buds on their bodies, they asexually sprout small planulae which attach and become new polyps.
