A job title in the Edo Shogunate. In addition to leading government affairs among the government officials in Osaka, they also guarded Osaka Castle and supervised the movements of the daimyo in the western provinces. In 1619 (5th Genna), Osaka came under direct control of the Shogunate, and Naito Nobumasa was transferred from the position of Fushimi Castle guard to this post. A total of 70 people held this position until the end of the Edo period. As it was an important post, it was generally selected from among the Fudai daimyo with stipends of 50,000 to 60,000 koku or more. For a while after its establishment, there was no set term of office, except for a two-year or one-year rotation. Yakuchi was awarded a stipend of 10,000 koku and fourth rank, and after serving their term, they were promoted to Kyoto Shoshidai and then Roju. The castle lord's residence was located north of Senkan Yagura within the castle, and he was given a secondary residence in the Higashimachi and Nishimachi areas of Shimizudani outside the castle.
