…In 1905, he became a lecturer at Princeton University, where he studied the thermal emission of positive ions from alkaline earth metals under the supervision of OW Richardson, and obtained his doctorate from Princeton University. After being drafted into the Western Electric Company (later Bell Telephone Laboratories) during the war, he began experimental research on the elastic scattering of electrons by metals in 1919, and in 1927, in collaboration with Lester Halbert Germer (1896-1971), he discovered the diffraction of electron beams by a single crystal plate of nickel, verifying de Broglie's theory of matter waves (this experiment is called the Davisson-Germer experiment). For this achievement, Davisson was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1937. …

…05年プリンストン大学講師となり，O.W.リチャードソンの指導の下に，アルカリ土類金属からの陽イオンの熱放出について研究し，プリンストン大学で博士号を取得した。戦時徴用で勤め始めたウェスタン･エレクトリック会社(のちのベル電話研究所)で，19年に金属による電子の弾性散乱の実験的研究を開始，27年にジャーマーLester Halbert Germer(1896‐1971)と共同で，ニッケルの単結晶板による電子線の回折現象を発見し，ド･ブロイの物質波の理論を検証することとなった(この実験はデビッソン=ジャーマーの実験と呼ばれている)。この業績によって，デビッソンは37年ノーベル物理学賞を受賞した。…
