A village in Minamiakita County, newly established in 1964 on the central reclaimed land of Lake Hachirogata in northwestern Akita Prefecture. It is considered a model village for large-scale mechanized rice farming, and rice paddy management began after the reclamation work was completed. Rice is the main crop, but the village also produces wheat, beans, pumpkins, garlic, and more. The specialty product, amuse melons, is famous. 170.11 km2 . 3,218 people (2010). 秋田県北西部,八郎潟の中央干拓地に1964年新設された南秋田郡の村。米単作の大規模機械化農業のモデル村とされ,干拓工事が完了後,水田経営が始められた。稲作を基幹とし,麦類,豆類,カボチャ,ニンニクなども産する。特産物のアムスメロンは有名。170.11km2。3218人(2010)。
