A tropical cyclone that occurs in the Indian Ocean. It often causes high tides and causes great damage in low-lying delta regions such as Bangladesh. About 10 occur annually, occurring between June and November. In the North Indian Ocean (Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea), a tropical cyclone with a maximum wind speed of 34 kn (about 17 m/s) or more is called a cyclonic storm. In the Southwest Indian Ocean, a tropical cyclone with a maximum wind speed of 64 kn (about 33 m/s) or more is called a tropical cyclone. In the Southeast Indian Ocean and South Pacific, a tropical cyclone with a maximum wind speed of 34 kn (about 17 m/s) or more is called a tropical cyclone. Tropical cyclones that occur and develop in these ocean areas are called cyclones.

A typical example of a dust collector that uses centrifugal force. When a fluid containing fine particles is blown into a cylindrical device in the tangential direction at high speed, the fluid descends while swirling along the cylindrical wall. This swirling flow exerts centrifugal force on the particles contained in the fluid, causing them to separate toward the wall and be removed from the bottom, while the fluid exits from the top center. In most cases the fluid is a gas, but there are also cases where the fluid is a liquid, which is specifically called a liquid cyclone.

遠心力を利用した集塵装置の代表的なものの一つ。微粒子を含んだ流体が円筒状の装置に接線方向に高速で吹込まれると，流体は筒壁に沿って旋回しながら下降する。この旋回流により流体中に含まれる粒子に遠心力が働き，粒子は壁方向に分離され，下方から取出され，流体は中心上部より出ていく。多くの場合流体は気体であるが，流体が液体のものもあり，それを特に液体サイクロンと呼ぶ。
