A panel (a plate-shaped component) with two sides larger than the room size is generally called a large panel, and a construction method in which large panels are assembled to be used as roofs, floors, and walls is called a large panel construction method. Panels can be made from wood, metal, plastic, etc., but concrete is the most common. The number of labor hours required for on-site construction is small because the panels are large, but on the other hand, if you try to give them the same level of versatility as small blocks, many different parts are required, and the number of parts used is small, which tends to increase costs.

2辺の寸法がルームサイズ以上のパネル(板状の部材)を一般に大型パネルといい，大型パネルを組み立てて，屋根，床，壁として用いる建築の施工法を大型パネル工法という。パネルの材料には木材，金属，プラスチックなどもあるが，コンクリートが一般的である。現場工事における労務工数はパネルが大型なため少なくてすむが，反面，小型のブロックなどによるものと同程度の汎用（はんよう）性をもたせようとすると，多くの部品種を要し，また1部品当りの使用個数が少ないなどの理由からコストアップを招きがちである。
