A former town in Nakakubiki County in the southwest of Niigata Prefecture. Facing the Sea of Japan, it occupies the northwestern part of the Takada Plain. At the center of the Kubiki oil and gas field, an artificial island has been constructed underwater to extract natural gas and oil. Natural gas is sent via pipeline to Naoetsu and Tokyo. The Shinetsu Main Line runs through the town. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Joetsu City along with Yasuzuka Town, Urakawara Village, Oshima Village, and Maki Village in Higashikubiki County, Kakizaki Town, Yoshikawa Town, Itakura Town, Kiyosato Village, Kubiki Village, Nakago Village, and Miwa Village in Nakakubiki County, and Nadachi Town in Nishikubiki County. 16.32 km2 .
