Akanishi Kaita - Akani Shikakita

A Japanese film from 1936 (Showa 11). Directed by Itami Mansaku. Based on the novel of the same name by Shiga Naoya. In the early 1930s, towards the end of the silent film era, a genre called "modern dramas with topknots" was born and was well received. This genre was created by directors Inagaki Hiroshi and Itami, starring the period drama star Kataoka Chiezo, and was influenced by the popular small-town films of the time, with a modern drama style, and this film is a representative example of this. Itami's humor and liberal qualities, which were already evident in his silent film ``Kokushi Musou'' (1932), are still alive and well here. Based on the Date Incident, the film depicts the behind-the-scenes of the incident with love and friendship as the main character, a spy for Chiezo. It also has a touch of French director Rene Clair's style, which was a key influence in the early days of talkies, and was praised as a sophisticated Japanese film. This unique style made it popular among a large number of aggressive period dramas, and this style was passed down to his son, Juzo Itami, who would go on to flourish in the 1980s.

日本映画。1936年（昭和11）作品。伊丹万作(いたみまんさく)監督。原作は志賀直哉(しがなおや)の同名小説。サイレント映画の末期1930年代初めに、「チョン髷(まげ)をつけた現代劇」とよばれたジャンルが生まれ、好評を博した。これは時代劇スターの片岡千恵蔵(かたおかちえぞう)主演により、稲垣浩(いながきひろし)監督や伊丹監督が創出したもので、当時流行(はや)った小市民映画の影響を受けた現代劇的な趣向の時代劇で、本作はその代表作である。すでにサイレント時代、『国士無双』（1932）で発揮されていた伊丹のユーモアとリベラルな持ち味はここでも健在。伊達(だて)騒動を下敷きにし、千恵蔵の密偵を主人公に、恋や友情をからめて騒動の舞台裏を描いた。トーキー初期のフランスの監督ルネ・クレール風の味わいも感じられ、洒脱(しゃだつ)な日本映画として評価された。武張った時代劇が多いなか、異色の作風が人気をよんだが、こうした作風は子息の伊丹十三(じゅうぞう)に受け継がれ、1980年代に開花することになる。
