Kirin Brewery Co., Ltd. - Kirin Beer
Commonly known as Kirin Beer. In 1885, Japan Brewery was established, taking over the beer facilities that an American had set up in Yokohama in the early Meiji period. The Kirin trademark has been used since then. Kirin was founded in 1907 with this as its predecessor. Before World War II, Kirin's share of the beer market was about 25%, but after the war, Kirin expanded its share by splitting up rival companies, keeping its brand name consistent, and optimizing the layout of its factories, and at one point held more than half the market share, earning the nickname "Gulliver." However, with the growth of Asahi Beer, its share of the beer market fell to less than 40%. Its current beer share is second. Meanwhile, in 1998, Kirin released its happoshu (low-malt beer) Kirin Tanrei, sparking a boom in happoshu. It also produces soft drinks and juices. It also produces 4% of pharmaceutical products. In July 2007, it transitioned to a pure holding company, Kirin Holdings. Head office in Tokyo, factories in Yokohama, Sendai, Nagoya, Okayama, and others. Capital in 2011 was 102 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending December 2011 were 2,717 billion yen. Sales composition (percentage) is domestic alcoholic beverages 42, domestic beverages 15, foreign alcoholic beverages and beverages 22, pharmaceuticals and biochemicals 16, and others 5.
